From German design protection DE 202004000977 there are known railing posts, consisting of an inner hollow post, with a foot for attachment to the base and an outer sleeve with grooves and gaskets. For arcuate attachment of glass, the posts can be mounted with the vertical grooves at different angles to each other and with the glass attached between the gaskets. This wants to give a too weak construction for practical use due to lack of support against the glass and arcuate mounting, is complicated.
From international patent application WO99 / 36637 a system is known which allows greater flexibility for mounting glass panels at different angles to each other. This consists of posts with at least one circular groove and with a glazing profile, which is rotatable in the groove. After the glass is mounted, it is attached with silicone injection. This makes disassembly in the event of a criminal injury very difficult.
The object of the invention is to arrive at a flexible universal railing post, which can be used for different glass thicknesses and different angles for fixing glass. The posts must provide good support for the glass. The railing post must be quick and easy to assemble and possibly disassemble and have sufficient strength for all purposes. The posts must be suitable both for mounting on a surface or for external mounting and must also be able to be used as corner posts.
These and other objects of the invention are achieved with the device described in the claims.
The invention thus relates to a universal railing post for glass railings, consisting of an inner post made to be attached to a base and with a railing post stepped on the outside with openings / grooves for attaching glass. The post is designed with an external profiled shape which corresponds to an internal profiled shape for the post and with overhead guides intended to be attached between the posts.
The railing post has openings / grooves for attaching straight or angled glazing profiles, cover profiles or a leveling profile that is used in corner posts.
The railing post is mainly designed as a triangle with a straight front side without grooves, two oblique side edges with three identical openings / grooves. Two of the openings / grooves are placed directly above each other, while the last is placed at 90 ° in relation to the other two. The openings have barbs for easy attachment (click mounting) of glazing profiles, or cover profiles or for mounting of leveling profile. Straight glazing profiles are intended for mounting glass at a 90 ° or 180 ° angle and when using angled profiles, glass can be mounted at any desired angle.
The railing post can be mounted on one foot and a guide can be mounted in the glass. It is also possible to mount the railing posts on the outside by using different types of clamping brackets. The posts are preferably made of an aluminum alloy.
The invention also comprises a corner post for use in a glass railing, where it has an inner post and a railing post intended to be threaded on the outside of the inner post with openings / grooves for attaching glass. the inner post is designed with an external profiled shape that corresponds to the inner profiled shape of the post. The post has mainly a triangular shape and is designed with a straight front without grooves, two oblique side edges and with three identical openings / grooves and where a cover profile is fitted in one of two grooves which are placed directly above each other and with a leveling profile mounted in a groove placed at 90 degrees on this, so that a right-angled corner is formed.
The invention is described in more detail with reference to the following drawings, Figures 1-6; where Figure 1A shows a cross section of a railing post, Figure 1B shows the cross section of an inner post and Figure 1C shows a foot.
Figure 2 shows a cross section of the railing post with inner post and different glazing profiles and cover profile. Figures 3A and 3B, show a vertical section of upper and lower guides with glazing profile.
Figure 4 shows a leveling profile used to form a 90 degree corner post together with a cover profile.
Figures 5A and B, show a plastic model of the railing post with a 90 degree corner, where Figure 5B also shows a straight and angled glazing profile with gasket.
Figure 6A shows an externally mounted corner post and Figure B shows a railing post mounted with a larger angle.
Figure 1A shows a cross section of the railing post 1. It has a mainly triangular shape, with a straight front side 2 without grooves and oblique side surfaces 3. It is preferably made of extruded aluminum alloy. The railing post has an inner opening 4 and three identical openings or grooves 5 on three sides for attaching glass. Figure 1B shows an inner post 6 designed to fit into the inner opening 4 of the railing post. The inner post is designed with an externally profiled shape which corresponds to the internal profiled shape of the outer post. It is preferably massive to give strength to the construction. The inner post may have different heights, depending on the strength required. Figure 1C shows a foot 7 for bracket for inner post and bracket for base. The foot can have different appearance and thickness, depending on use / strength requirements.
In Figure 2, the railing post 1, shown with inner post 6, is mounted internally and with different profiles mounted in the openings / grooves 5. Straight glazing profile 8 is preferably made of extruded aluminum and adapted to be mounted in opening / groove 5 in the railing post in 3 places, independent of each other. Two of the openings are located directly above each other and enable the installation of a straight glass railing. The third opening is located 90 ° on the other two and allows mounting of glass at a 90 ° angle. Angled glazing profile 9 is used when an angle other than 90 ° or 180 ° is desired for the glass railing. In the figure it is shown with 45 ° and the profile can be turned to cover a 135 degree angle, where desired. It is also possible to use profiles that provide other angles. The glass is fixed in the profiles 8, 9 with rubber gaskets (not shown) in groove 18 against the glass. Different thicknesses of the rubber gaskets allow the use of different glass thicknesses. In openings / grooves that are not used, a cover profile is fitted 10. The profiles are click-fastened using the barbs 11/12 of the openings / grooves.
Figures 3A and B show a guide consisting of a lower part, which may be centric 14 or eccentric 15 and an upper part 16. The lower part has an opening / groove 17 corresponding to those in the railing post. The guide is shown with a straight glazing profile 18.
All parts for inner posts and railing posts are made of extruded aluminum alloy. The parts are cut to suitable lengths. The foot is made of an aluminum plate.
When mounting, a foot 7, preferably of aluminum, is attached to the inner post 6 and to the base. The foot preferably has the same appearance as the railing post, but has a larger area. It can have different designs. The railing post 1 is pulled down on the inner post.
Extruded aluminum cover profile 10 is mounted to cover openings / grooves 5, which are not used. A straight or angled glazing profile is mounted in the openings / grooves of the railing post, which are to be used. The glass is mounted with a rubber gasket of suitable thickness. The glass rests on a plastic block, which is mounted in the railing post (not shown)). A straight glazing profile 8 with a rubber gasket mounted in groove 18, is first mounted on the glass, before the underside of the guide is attached to it and finally the upper guide is mounted.
It is often desirable to have corner posts at a 90 ° angle. Figure 4 shows a leveling profile 19, intended to be attached to the railing post. It has a barb 20, which is hooked into a groove in the railing post, before it clicks into place. The profile also has a groove 21 for attaching glass to a rubber gasket.
Figure 5A shows a plastic model of the post, with leveling profile 19 and cover profile 10, mounted so that a 90 degree corner is formed. Figure SB shows the same plastic model with corners, but where a straight glazing profile 8 and angled glazing profile 9 with rubber gasket 22 are also installed.
The railing post can also be mounted in an externally attached glass railing. In this context, the posts are fastened with a clamp to the vertical surface. Such a bracket clamps the post so that it cannot move. It is not necessary to glue the inner post to the outer railing post. The post is adjustable and can be easily raised or lowered. In case the glass is broken, the construction is easy to disassemble. Figure 6A shows a clamping bracket 23 consisting of two parts for mounting a corner post. Other solutions are entirely possible, as long as it provides a good enough attachment of the post. Figure 6B shows a clamp bracket 24, in the form of an “omega” (Q) together with a support profile, which is used for angled mounting. The figure shows the glass 26 mounted at a 135 degree angle. On straight surfaces, use only the clamp 24.
